Chinese EV Battery Maker Plans Massive Illinois Plant – Robert Khodadadian

Chinese EV battery maker Gotion has chosen Illinois for the company’s planned development of a new $2 billion EV lithium battery plant. The facility is the latest Chinese green energy-related project in the United States.

Located in Manteno, the 150-acre site is projected to create 2,600 new jobs, and production is expected to start next year. According to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Gotion’s investment will be supported by REV, a new “Invest in Illinois” fund, and other incentives worth a total of $536 million. Gotion will be the first recipient of the Invest in Illinois funding, and the company was approved for property tax abatement for 30 years.

“With 2,600 new jobs, a $2 billion gigafactory, and the most significant new manufacturing investment in Illinois in decades — it’s the most recent proof that we are in a new paradigm. Illinois is on the rise, and we’re open for business,” said Pritzker.
