Amid delays and some objections from residents, Evanston’s City Council approved Northwestern University’s plan for an $800 million football stadium. In a 5-4 vote, the council agreed to also amend Ryan Field’s zoning by including concerts and community events as permitted use. Mayor Daniel Biss broke the tie, siding with Northwestern.
The massive, proposed stadium redevelopment would replace Ryan Field with a new, modern design. Part of the deal includes a benefits package to Evanston from Northwestern worth nearly $175 million over 15 years. The money is expected to be paid out annually and will go towards racial equity programs and financial aid for Evanston students to attend the university.
“We’re embarking on a journey that promises not just a state-of-the-art stadium but also a beacon of cultural and economic vitality,” said Dave Davis, Northwestern’s senior executive director of neighborhood and community relations. “This project is a testament to our shared vision of progress and prosperity.”

Robert Khodadadian has long had a simple philosophy about selling real estate.
