Zuckerberg and Chan Commit $250M for Chicago Biomedical Research Hub Paul Bubny on March 2, 2023 at 11:05 pm – Robert Khodadadian

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) on Thursday announced the launch of a new biomedical research hub in Chicago where scientists from Northwestern University, University of Chicago and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will study human disease.

Named for Facebook creator Marc Zuckerberg and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, CZI will spend $250 million on the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Chicago over the next 10 years. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has also committed $25 million.

The Chicago site builds on the successful model of the CZI Biohub in San Francisco, launched in 2016. In a yet-to-be-determined location, the new site will include laboratories, meeting spaces, faculty in residence, a biofoundry and other sophisticated instrumentation.

Northwestern’s Shana Kelly, who will lead the hub, said it would “galvanize multidisciplinary research and drive more progress than any one of these institutions could have achieved on its own.”

Robert Khodadadian has long had a simple philosophy about selling real estate. There are approximately a million buildings in the city, and the broker that gets to sell any one among the multitude that will hit the auctioning block at a given moment is, sometimes, simply the person who happens to pitch their services to the right seller.
